What Makes Shoes Vegan?

What Makes Shoes Vegan? - OAT Baby Club

Did you know that your leather shoes and other leather accessories could be made from cats and dogs? The reality is that a variety of animals are killed to produce leather: cattle, crocodiles, fish, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, seals, deer, dogs and cats, amongst others (more about the leather industry here).
While leather is a common focus of unethical footwear, shoes can also be made from fur, wool, and silk which are also derived from animal slaughter.

Vegan shoes are created without any use of animal-derived materials, and there is no animal testing involved. Vegan shoes can be made from plants or from synthetic materials like polyurethane, microfiber, or rubber. A popular leather alternative is Pineapple Leather which is made from cellulose fibers extracted from the pineapple’s leaves as well as its top and bottom parts.

Everything we produce will have some form of impact on the environment, however vegan shoes, especially the plant-based kind, are a more sustainable and cruel-free choice for footwear.

“We can sit back, do nothing and watch our planet be destroyed. Or we can take action, become advocates and start making lifestyle choices which are kinder to people and the planet.”
